American Farmers Moving To Mexico As Illegals Forced ToLeave February Sean Wilson Cheap labor barons have been hurt by the lack of cheap labor in the form of illegal aliens. In fact some have been hurt so much that they are moving their businesses. Where else would they move them but Mexico Farmers Would Rather Move Farming To Mexico Than Pay Americans Better Wages The Lie Is Exposed Some American farmers are moving south of the border renting and leasing large parcels of land to farm. That s right these farmers simply do not want to pay better wages to Americans. The whole lie that Americans won t do the work that illegals aliens do is just that a lie. We are starting to see the truth come to light. People who have been hiring illegal aliens would rather take their businesses to Mexico than pay American workers wages consistent with the standard of living in America. These farmers still argue that Americans don t want farm jobs. That s another lie. The media is always quick! to attempt frightening Americans with tales of impending doom that will result if we stop illegal immigration. There are plenty of Americans who will do farm work just not for the wages that farmers pay illegal aliens. That is basic economics. Why do you think we have tens of thousands of legal immigrants from Mexico and India each year while just a bit over from Ireland for example Do cheap labor barons want more immigrants from nations that have the highest standard of living in Europe and that will expect decent wages or do they want those immigrants from nations that have large populations that will work for low wages That too is economics just not what they love to point out in your college economics classes. Cheap labor is at the center of this issue on the one hand. On the other it is about greedy people who would rather move their business overseas than pay wages more in line with a nation that has a higher standard of living. Just because it involves agriculture d! oes not mean that wages should not increase as in other sectors. If a nation s standard of living increases to the point that no one wants to do a particular kind of labor for the wages paid to perform that job either wages must go up or you must find a way to lower production and labor costs or you go out of business. Most people will say that they are only doing what is smart from a business standpoint and moving a business out of the USA as other companies have done. This is true and that is also basic economics. It is also true that they are creating vulnerabilities in the American economy and our national security by their doing so and that is called your basic greed. The problem with all outsourcing is that it creates vulnerabilities outside the control of the entity doing the outsourcing. Imagine what happens for example if tens of thousands of workers in India go on strike to protest a policy in the USA. Big deal you say It is if they happen to be the outsourced workers that deal with credit card processing as many American firms have ! come to rely on. Think in terms of tens of millions of dollars of damage done to the American economy every day as part of a strike by foreign workers working for American companies who have no loyalty to anything but profit. Similarly what happens when farm workers strike and we can t even hire those willing to work to keep produce in the markets because the farms are in Mexico What happens if the Mexican government is overthrown and American farmers in Mexico end up feeding the next peoples revolution of Mexico rather than Americans What will happen to millions of Americans across the nation On any given day there is enough food in a major American city to last about three days in the event of a major disaster such as when Katrina hit New Orleans before we would see mass starvation and the accompanying chaos as fighting broke out over dwindling supplies. You think this is far fetched Some brilliant minds have postulated these very scenarios and some are thinking up soluti! ons that will protect us from potential vulnerabilities to our society in the future including the agriculture and economic implications . He says we should secure the border and then address other issues after that s done. It appears that is what the majority in the Republican party have chosen to embrace. And then on the other side both Obama and Clinton have said they will roll back the border fence project. I thought Obama was about change Instead he too has sided with business as usual right along with Clinton and McCain. The truth is there is still only one Presidential candidate who will address illegal immigration by putting the interests of Americans first rather than the interests of those entering our country illegally and it is Ron Paul . That is the message being delivered by the Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation RIRDC as the industry gathers for the Native Food Summit in M! elbourne next week. RIRDC s Project Manager for Native Foods Alison Saunders said the development and supply of product information to regulators and consumers would be the number one priority under the industry s new five year Research and Development Plan. Native foods such as lemon myrtle bush tomatoes and mountain pepper have been used by aboriginal Australians for tens of thousands of years but if the industry is to succeed it will need to develop new markets among the broader community and overseas Ms Saunders said. Part of that market development will entail satisfying national and international food regulations education about native food characteristics nutritional and toxicity information and storage and shelf life along the supply chain. It will also require investigation into and promotion of health benefits aroma and flavour profiles and standardised native food naming. RIRDC has just published the results of a seven year trial of the cultivation and harvesting! of native foods in south east Australia which demonstrates that foods like native limes quandongs and riberries can be grown commercially in several locations. As part of this report we have produced a series of information sheets on the key native foods which can be used to help educate growers and potential growers about market requirements and post harvest handling. They will also be an important tool for educating consumers about native foods what they are what they look like and most importantly what they taste like. Subscriber Woes Subscription revenues were affected by the sales of AOL s Internet access businesses in the U.K. France and Germany the company said as well as a decrease in domestic AOL subscribers . The U.S. drop partially reflects AOL s previously announced strategy to offer its e mail some software and other products free. As of December the AOL service had . million U.S. access subscribers a decline of from the prior quarter and . million from the year ago quarter reflecting subscriber losses as AOL focused on advertising revenues. Former Time Warner CEO Dick Parsons made it clear last September that the company would divest itself of the AOL access business at some point. The move aims to quicken AOL s migration from a dying dial up business to a thriving Internet advertising business. The company did not offer details on when the split will take place or what the company will look like when it does. Th! e Somewhat Silver Lining The news isn t all grim for AOL. The Internet portal saw an percent increase or million in advertising revenues in the fourth quarter. Advertising revenues benefited from growing sales on third party Internet sites as well as advertising on the AOL network . Still that growth is less than the industry average of percent tracked by the International Advertising Bureau. For comparison Google s ad revenue grew percent in its fiscal fourth quarter. Time Warner may be more likely to get buyers for its Platform A advertising business without the dial up division attached. The ISP business is still pretty lucrative. It s not what it was and it s been a drag on the company s outlook as a Time Warner subsidiary said Greg Sterling principal analyst at Sterling Market Intelligence. A would be buyer of the Platform A piece wouldn t want the other asset. They are now very separate assets. If you are going to sell either or both of these it makes sense. The market perception is that the dial up business revenues will decline substan! tially in the coming years as broadband becomes more pervasive. Even though it s a billion plus business Time Warner seems ready to cut its losses and focus on advertising. Whether the company will also sell its Platform A portfolio is uncertain. AOL has built an impressive collection of advertising technology and capabilities and its Platform A portfolio. I don t think all those companies are integrated into a single platform as its name suggests but that s AOL s ultimate ambition Sterling said. It s a very powerful combination which AOL says has the broadest advertising reach on the Internet.
