By now the snow was pretty thick. My buddy and I scooped up some snow and fired back. Now the kids had a purpose and unveiled their fortress firepower. They rapidly unleashed a torrent of snowballs in our direction. We were clearly no match for those kids who laughed with devilish glee. We chuckled too but soon had to make a run for it because we were getting pummeled. By now a semi expert I made it all the way down without falling. The Historical Society feels that this barn is especially important given the rich Dutch history of the region. Currently the barn has been disassembled documented and stored in anticipation of its reconstruction. This whole area even just the name Saugerties it all comes from a Dutch word said Block. Block said You can t have life i! n the home without life in the barn. It was the source of life where they cared for crops and animals. These events have consistently attracted tourists as well as interested community members. Reconstructing the barn has not been an easy task however. The plan is not to place the barn on the site of an existing structure of the property. Despite being underground the Society would like to preserve the foundations because of their historical significance. However the people of this town couldn t care less about a barn. They are paying for so many things that they don t want now. They are so over taxed that there is NO chance that they will pay for this barn. They are tired ofbeing asked to pay for anything. With all the things that should be done in Saugerties this barn is the last. I will not give a dime. I was told that I had ruffled some feathers with the local leadership. ! I assured her that was not my point. I reiterated the fact that lack of communication was my biggest concern.
